VAG autoworks is approved by the DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency) to undertake MOT tests. If you own a vehicle that is 3 years or older you have a responsibility to ensure that it has an annual safety inspection known as an MOT. The principle purpose of the MOT test is to ensure the vehicle meets the minimum safety standards required by law.

Without a valid (VT20) MOT certificate you are unable to tax your vehicle or drive it lawfully on the road. MOT computerisation now enables the DVSA and police to undertake roadside checks to see if your vehicle has a current MOT. If your vehicle is involved in a road traffic accident your insurance claim may be affected without a valid MOT certificate.

Your MOT test can be undertaken up to 28 days before the old MOT expires, the date on your new MOT certificate will then last for up to 13 months.

During the MOT test, a tester authorised by the DVSA will inspect some important components on your vehicle to make sure they meet set minimum standards.

The items tested during an MOT test usually include:

• Vehicle identification and registration plates
• Lights
• Steering and suspension
• Windscreen, wipers and washers
• Seats and seatbelts
• Fuel and exhaust systems
• Bodywork, doors and mirrors
• Wheels tyres and brakes
